Defence Employer Recognition Scheme Silver Award

The Defence Employer Recognition Scheme (ERS) aims to encourage organisations to support defence and requires companies to pledge and demonstrate their support for the Armed Forces community in a variety of ways such as support for military families and flexibility for reservists. The purpose of the ERS is to encourage companies to align their values with those of the 'Armed Forces Covenant' and to be a part of the ERS a company is required to sign the covenant.

The Armed Forces Covenant

The Armed Forces Covenant is an agreement between the Armed Forces community, the nation and the government. It is a moral obligation to those who serve, have served, their families and the bereaved. The idea behind the covenant is to ensure that members of the Armed Forces community should face no disadvantage compared to other citizens in the provision of public and commercial services. Also, in some cases, military personnel may require special considerations, for example, reservists who require time off civilian work.

Businesses who wish to demonstrate their support for the Armed Forces community can sign the covenant either if they are an employer of a member of the Armed Forces community or simply wish to acknowledge publically their support for the Armed Forces. Over 900 companies and organisations have signed the covenant.

Proud to Have Achieved a Silver Award!

The ERS is split into 3 tiers: bronze, silver and gold. Bronze awards are self nominated to employers who pledge support for the Armed Forces and sign the Armed Forces Covenant whereas silver and gold awards require companies to meet certain criteria. For example, to achieve a silver award an organisation needs to proactively demonstrate that service personnel are not unfairly disadvantaged as part of their recruiting and selection processes and they must employ at least one individual from the Armed Forces community. An employer nominated for support to the Reserves must employ at least one Reservist. With regards to Reserves the employer must have demonstrated support to mobilisations and they must provide at least 5 days' additional unpaid/paid leave.

Rangoon Point has been granted a silver award in the Employer Recognition Scheme as we demonstration our support for the Armed Forces in a variety of ways. For example, we offer above and beyond the minimum paid leave for Reservist employees to allow them to complete their two weeks of continuous service and engage in various training exercises. We promote military holidays throughout the year (such as remembrance day, Armed Forces day etc..) and one way that we do this is by observing a minute's silence on Remembrance Sunday. We also provide support for spouses, partners and families of Reservist employees.

We take our commitment to supporting Armed Forces personnel very seriously and we are proud to support those who serve.
